Spoilers for Dancing with the Stars Season 35 Disney Night (Monday, November 2, ABC and Disney+). Julia Stiles and Ezra Sosa were eliminated. Harry Shum Jr. and Jenna Dewan both scored perfect 40s, and Shum and Jenna Johnson won immunity from next week’s dance-off. Seven couples remain (TV Insider; ABC News).
Election coverage pushed DWTS to a Monday this week, and the show used the extra night well. The ballroom went full Broadway for Disney Night, with the eight remaining couples dancing to songs from Disney stage musicals, two team dances, live singers and Cynthia Erivo on the judges’ panel next to Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli. Our Disney Night preview has the full song list.
It was a night of big scores. It also ended with one of the season’s best-loved stars going home.
Julia Stiles and Ezra Sosa go home
Julia Stiles and Ezra Sosa danced a paso doble to “Satisfied” from Hamilton. TV Insider reports that rehearsals were hard, as an old rib injury of Julia’s flared up. On the night, the judges loved it.
“That is how you tell a story!” Bruno Tonioli said, calling it “a proper paso doble.” Carrie Ann Inaba praised Julia for “digging deep” and turning her “raw emotion into beautiful dancing,” though she spotted a “little stumble.” Derek Hough added: “Last week was a bit of a setback, but a setback is just a setup for a comeback, and tonight you delivered that.”
The paso scored 33 out of 40 (Tonioli gave it a 9; the other three judges gave 8s). Add the 36 from Team Slaytopia’s group dance and Julia had 69 judges’ points for the night. That was more than Maura Higgins and Mark Ballas, who had 32 plus 36 for 68. But the result combines judges’ scores with fan votes, and when the hosts got down to the final two, it was Julia and Ezra who were sent home (TV Insider; EW).
EW called it “a tragic fan-favorite elimination.” TVLine was more mixed: it said the paso was “a major improvement from last week,” but that Julia’s run had been “wildly inconsistent” (TVLine). Last week, guest judge Shirley Ballas had given her a 4 on the way to 26 out of 40, which you can read about in our Horror Movie Night recap.
Two perfect 40s
Harry Shum Jr. and Jenna Johnson danced a jazz routine to “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” from Mary Poppins, with Kyra Belle Johnson singing live (Today). TheWrap called it a Dick Van Dyke-inspired performance. “Get this man on Broadway, stat!” Derek Hough said, and Inaba raved about how “precisely clean” it was. It was their second perfect 40 in a row.

Jenna Dewan and Val Chmerkovskiy matched them with a quickstep to “Be Our Guest” from Beauty and the Beast. Jenna wore a golden Belle gown and Val dressed as the Beast. Inaba called her the “perfect princess.” Hough called it “magnificent, elegant, glorious,” and Tonioli said it was “Dancing with the Stars at its best.” It was the pair’s first perfect 40 of the season (TV Insider; TVLine).
The one-point immunity tiebreak
Host Alfonso Ribeiro said the highest-scoring couple from the solo routines would earn a pass on next week’s dance-off. With two couples on 40, producers broke the tie on total judges’ points for the season. Harry and Jenna Johnson had 236, and Jenna Dewan and Val had 235. So Shum and Johnson won immunity by one point (Today; TheThings).
That means they won’t have to learn an extra dance for the Grammy Night dance-off. TheThings notes that immunity does not protect them from elimination.
Every other Disney Night dance
Amber Glenn and Pasha Pashkov opened the show with a quickstep to “A Star Is Born” from Hercules. “I just thought that was the most joyful thing ever to start this with,” Cynthia Erivo said. Tonioli and Inaba both spotted a “little misstep,” and TVLine noticed Amber’s costume flapping over her face mid-routine. It still scored 34.

Maura Higgins and Mark Ballas took on the jive, set to “You Can Fly! You Can Fly! You Can Fly!” from Peter Pan, with Maura as Tinker Bell and Mark as Captain Hook. Tonioli said she “sold” it but looked “flat-footed” at times. Hough said: “This is a hard dance to do in Week 8… but overall, you’re a cinema to watch.” Four 8s gave them 32, the joint-lowest score of the night.

Tatyana Ali and Jan Ravnik danced a contemporary to “Easy as Life” from Aida, with original Broadway Aida Heather Headley singing live. “You gave me chills,” Inaba said. A 9 from Inaba and three 8s made 33, Tatyana’s best score of the season (TV Insider; EW).
Ezra Frech and Daniella Karagach brought a samba set to “Under the Sea” from The Little Mermaid, with Michael James Scott singing. “You look like a prince and dance like a devil! Where are those hips coming from?” Tonioli asked. Hough gave a 10 and the others gave 9s, for 37.
Connor Wood and Rylee Arnold closed the first round with a waltz to “I See the Light” from Tangled, with Heather Headley back to sing. Rylee wore a lilac Rapunzel gown. The judges praised Connor’s storytelling but said his frame still needs work. Four 8s made 32.
