Married at First Sight UK Cancelled by Channel 4 After Season 6 Allegations

The network says the format has run its course. The filmed sixth season and the Second Married at First Sight spinoff will not air.

Quick take: Channel 4 has cancelled Married at First Sight UK after 10 years and will not broadcast the already-filmed sixth season. The move followed an external review prompted by sexual assault allegations from three Season 6 contributors, first reported by BBC Panorama. Chief executive Priya Dogra said the show has “run its course.”

Channel 4 confirmed the decision on November 5, 2026. NBC News, Vulture and ABC News report that the network is also dropping the spinoff Second Married at First Sight, which had been in preproduction. Previous seasons were pulled from streaming in May.

What Channel 4 decided

Dogra’s statement, carried by NBC News and Vulture, says the review praised welfare protocols, found no Ofcom Code breach, and did not conclude the format is inherently unsafe. She still chose to end the show:

“Whilst the review praised the welfare protocols in place and made no findings that Channel 4 breached the Ofcom Code or that the format is inherently unsafe, I have to consider when is the right time for Channel 4 to move on from a format.”

On the review’s recommendations, Dogra said they were “eminently sensible and feasible,” but that putting them all in place raised basic questions about what the programme would still be. She believes it “has now run its course over ten years.” ABC News reports Channel 4’s view that full implementation would fundamentally change the format. Money budgeted for the series will go toward finding “the next generation of distinctive and disruptive British television,” Dogra said, per NBC News.

The allegations that prompted the review

BBC Panorama’s investigation, as summarised by NBC News, Vulture and ABC News, reported claims from three women on Season 6:

  • Two of the women alleged rape while the series was being made. One of those accounts, as summarised by NBC News from the BBC, also included an alleged threat of an acid attack.
  • A third woman alleged sexual misconduct by her on-screen husband.

All three men denied the allegations. In July 2026, the BBC reported that a cast member had been arrested on suspicion of rape. Coverage has not named the accused or the alleged victims, and neither will this report.

Channel 4 said its review did not seek to adjudicate those allegations, which “remain a matter for the relevant authorities.”

What the review found

Channel 4 hired law firm Clyde & Co to examine safety protocols during filming and how production company CPL handled concerns once they were raised. NBC News says reviewers looked at more than 30,000 documents plus hours of footage. The full report was not published; Channel 4 issued a summary and called the document a “legally privileged and confidential review.”

From that summary, as reported by NBC News and ABC News:

  • There was no overall breach of the broadcasting code.
  • In some incidents, the full “welfare framework” was not applied.
  • One incident involved contributors who broke rules about “prohibited substances” and received a warning rather than being removed.

A second strand was led by former BBC One controller Lorraine Heggessey. Channel 4 said she found the welfare protocols “extensive, extremely thorough and of a high standard,” while also recommending tighter monitoring and support — among them separate bedrooms, panic buttons, continuous recording in apartments, and at least one unsupervised home visit. She also flagged format pressure points such as Intimacy Week, Partner Swap Week, and the rule that can keep a couple in for another week if only one person wants to leave.

Channel 4’s view, summarised by NBC News, is that adopting those recommendations wholesale would mean a “materially greater level of intervention” and would change the show’s editorial proposition.

Season 6 will not air — and past seasons are already gone

Vulture reports that the latest season had already been filmed and will not air, and that Second Married at First Sight is cancelled too. ABC News and NBC News both note that Channel 4 removed earlier seasons from its streaming platform in May, after the BBC report detailed the rape allegations. CPL said it understood the network’s decision and pointed again to Heggessey’s praise for its welfare protocols, according to Sky News as cited by NBC News.

Where that leaves the franchise

Married at First Sight started in Denmark and has versions in several countries, including the US and Australia. The UK edition ran for 10 seasons on Channel 4 / E4. Ending it closes a major chapter for the network’s dating slate, while other international versions continue.

Any criminal process around the Season 6 allegations remains separate from Channel 4’s commissioning decision. This article does not name accused people or alleged victims, and treats the claims as allegations.
