The short version: Peg Munson says she has ended her relationship with Mel Owens, the lead of The Golden Bachelor Season 2. She announced it in an Instagram video on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, almost a year after Mel gave her a commitment ring in the finale. She didn’t give a reason. In the video, Peg apologised for not speaking sooner: “it’s been a really difficult 30 days for me.” Then she explained:
“As a lot of you guys know, I went on The Golden Bachelor hoping to find love, and I did, and you know, for that I’m grateful. I did have to make the difficult decision to step away from the relationship, and sometimes even when there’s love, it just doesn’t turn out the way that we hoped. So right now, I’m just focusing on healing my heart and just focusing on myself, my health, and looking forward to the next chapter.”
She ended on good terms: “I really do just really wish Mel the best of luck, and I’m very grateful for the experience” (TV Insider).
Her caption began: “Sometimes love is real, but the outcome isn’t what you hoped for.” It ended: “This is not the end of my story. It’s the beginning of a new chapter.”
What she didn’t say
Peg didn’t say why the relationship ended or exactly when, and nothing in the reports we used gives a reason. We’re not going to guess. Mel, a former NFL linebacker with the Los Angeles Rams, hadn’t addressed the split when E! News and TV Insider published on October 22 (E! News). We’ll add his side if he speaks.
How they got here
- November 2025: In the Season 2 finale, Cindy Cullers left after Mel said he wasn’t ready to get engaged. Mel gave Peg a ring as a sign of commitment, not a proposal: “I have a ring. This represents our commitment to love, to give us time to figure out, together, what our future holds.” Peg said they were “on the same page” (TV Insider). Reality TV World, citing People, says the ring was 3.5 carats.
- The following year: Peg is a retired firefighter and bomb technician. She’s 63 and Mel is 67, according to Reality TV World. TV Insider says they dated for about a year but never got engaged or moved in together. Reality TV World notes Peg shared glimpses of their life together on social media over the summer (Reality TV World).
- Late September 2026: On the Bachelor Happy Hour podcast, Peg said she wasn’t ready to get engaged. Reality TV World reports she said she’d turn down a proposal if Mel asked.
