Spoilers for Hell’s Kitchen Season 25 episode 5, “The Meat of the Matter,” which aired October 22 on Fox.
The short version: The blue team won a blind protein relay, but the red team won dinner service. The men nominated Aiden Ricklef and Jonny G, and Gordon Ramsay sent Aiden home over his garnish mistakes and his refusal to ask for help (Gold Derby).
Drama before the challenge
On the red team, some chefs were angry that Gordon had been told Mya volunteered for elimination last week. On the blue side, Jonny G and Miguel Soliz were still fighting over Miguel’s upcoming wedding at a former plantation (New Haven Register).
The protein relay
Pairs tasted bowls of meat and fish and had to name each one. The red team took 10 minutes 23 seconds, and the blue team beat that easily. Their reward was lunch at Momosan Foxwoods by Morimoto, bubble soccer and HexClad pans. The red team stayed behind to break down pork and lamb racks.
Dinner service
Howie Dorough of the Backstreet Boys and Margaret Josephs of The Real Housewives of New Jersey sat at the chef’s tables. Aiden overcooked eggs and fell behind on garnish, and Gabe Cerease took a utensil out of his hand during a heated exchange. Sandra LeClerc sent up raw lamb once. For the first time this season both teams finished service, and Ramsay picked red as the winners.
Elimination
Aiden blamed Gabe’s ego, but it didn’t save him. “I regret not fighting for myself in the kitchen,” he said on his way out. Ramsay told both teams it was their best service so far, “but now that we’ve all set the bar, we are not going back.”
